Depression in Young People: Publication series
Depression in young people is now recognised as a serious public health problem in Australia, with associated social and economic costs to the community. As a result, the NHMRC Standing Committee on the Quality of Care and Health Outcomes initiated this as one of the pilot guideline projects.

The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) has released a publication titled Depression in young people: Clinical Practice Guidelines. From these evidence-based guidelines two guides, titled A Guide for Mental Health Professionals and A Guide for General Practitioners, have been produced.

These guides are intended as a brief reference to assist Mental Health Professionals and General Practitioners in detecting and treating depression in young people aged between 13 and 20 years of age. They might also be useful for parents, community workers and others interested in the problems facing young people and some of the ways of helping them.
