Aged Services 
Community Health Centres
Community Health services vary from centre to centre and include family health services, mental health services, child health services, HACC, community health nursing services and confidential counselling. Referrals to self-help groups and health welfare services, drug education and drug dependence programs may be available. Physiotherapy, occupational therapy and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander services may also be available. Some Community Health Centres offer access to Home and Community Care (HACC) programs. HACC programs are a joint state and federal government initiative which provides frail aged people and people with a disability access to practical services which assist them to continue living in their own home. Support services are also available for carers. Services which may be available to eligible clients include domestic assistance, social support, home nursing and personal care, respite care (in home and centre - based), home maintenance or minor modifications, allied health services (such as podiatry, dietetics, physiotherapy and speech pathology) and referral to other support services where needed (such as Meals on Wheels). Fees apply to certain HACC services, but special arrangements may be made for people who cannot afford these costs.

100+ Club
100+ Club is a program of the Queensland Community Care Network. It is a social club for persons aged 100+. The club organises outings, lunches and various activities.

50+ Centre - Brisbane
The 50+ Centre is run by Brisbane City Council for the over 50's. It is a club where members can interact with others to enjoy a variety of activities in a safe, happy and sociable environment. Activities include ballroom, square, tap and line dancing, gentle exercise, yoga, art, indoor bowls, clogging, patchwork, embroidery and cards.

50s+ club - kallangur
The Kallangur 50s+ Club holds activities including indoor bowls, boardgames, guest speakers and bus trips. Meetings are held every 2nd and 4th Tuesday and the club is wheelchair accessible.

Ablecare Health
AbleCare provides a functional wholistic programme that aims to improve ability and overcome the effects of a range of disabilities and health problems. Early intervention and ongoing therapy and programme supports are offered for all ages. The innovative programme combines traditional and natural approaches to therapy to maximise outcomes for the individual. Specialised assessments and individual treatment options are provided as part of the programme.

Aged Care Assessment - General
The Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) is a multi-disciplinary team whose primary role is the assessment of frail aged people or people with disabilities, in their home, in hospital or in aged care facilities. ACAT is responsible for assessing and approving applications for residential care (permanent and respite) and Community Aged Care Packages. The team provides information and advice to elderly people and people with disabilities in order to assist them in making informed decisions about care services. Self referrals and referrals from any other appropriate source are accepted.

Bayside Aged & Disability Helpline provides a "one stop" advice and consultancy referral telephone service for the general public, general practitioners and service providers. The helpline aims to assist older people and people with disabilities to access the most appropriate community and/or health services.

Aged Care Info Line
National Aged and Community Care Information Line is a free national telephone information and referral service to assist callers with enquiries on aged and community care and associated services. The service deals with queries from the most general to the very particular.

Alzheimers Assoc - General
The Alzheimers Association provides a range of services throughout Queensland for people with dementia and the carers of such people, professional health and aged care service providers, students, and people interested in dementia care. Services include a 24 hour information and support line, respite services, residential care, support groups, dementia specific library and information sheets, community education and professional development.

Anglican Church - Taigum
The Anglican Church at Taigum provides respite and permanent care for aged people.

Arthritis Foundation - Bris
The Arthritis and Osteoporosis Queensland provides an arthritis telephone information line and self-help and community education programs. The Foundation provides information on support groups throughout Queensland. The Arthritis and Oseoporosis Queensland is also involved in research, publicity and promotional projects.

Aussi Masters Swimming
AUSSI Masters Swimming is an Australia wide, non profit organisation for adult swimmers. Their mission is to provide at club, state and national level an environment to encourage adults, regardless of age or ability, to swim regularly in order to promote fitness and improve their general health. AUSSI Masters Swimming Queensland can provide information on local clubs.

Australian Hearing is a provider of hearing care and provides services under the Commonwealth Government Hearing Services program. If eligible for the program, fully subsidised services provided include: * Hearing Assessment * Hearing rehabilitation (including selection and fitting of hearing aids and devices) * Hearing habilitation (including selection and fitting of hearing aids and devices) * Counselling for hearing loss * Tinnitus Counselling * Repairs and Maintenance of hearing aids and devices Australian Hearing also provides Noise Management programs. Australian Pensioners and Supe
Australian Pensioners and Superannuants League (APSL) serves as a voice at state and local levels for all people who depend for their living on a pension or a superannuation payment. The APSL speaks on all issues of importance to the security, wellbeing and dignity of such individuals. This is an advocacy, referral and information service and an organisation that also acts as a lobby group. There are over 80 branches throughout Queensland that meet on a regular basis for various activities. Activities and fees are determined by each branch.

Berlasco
The management and staff at Berlasco Court are committed to recognising and respecting the cultural diversity of residents. Berlasco Court aims to provide the best care possible, taking into consideration the cultural and linguistic needs of residents. Residents are able to practice their religious, personal and cultural customs with the support of the staff.

Blue Care
Blue Care is a leading not for profit provider of a range of community and residential aged care services. The client population serviced includes frail older persons, younger people with disabilities and others in need within the general community. Services provided include: Community Nursing (Blue Nursing): In home nursing and clinic facilities are available. These services are designed to encourage maximum independence and enhance quality of life. RESPITE SERVICES: respite care provides support for frail older people, people with dementia, younger people with a disability, and for carers and their families. Respite services offer individual social and recreational activities as well as 'time out' for carers. Care can be either in-home or centre based. Respite services are generally planned, however emergency services are available in some areas. Flexible and responsive services are provided to people living in isolated rural and remote areas, in collaboration with other service providers. CARER RESPITE CENTRES: A support network is provided for carers to access when they require a break. These centres provide easy access to information regarding respite care as well as support and assistance for carers and their families. RESIDENTIAL AGED CARE SERVICES: A supportive, safe and secure environment for residents is provided through a range of accommodation facilities including: independent living units, low care residential and hostel facilities, high care residential and nursing home facilities and special purpose dementia units. ALLIED HEALTH: Professional allied health services are offered to individuals in therapy centres, clinics, residential facilities, and in-home. Services are aimed at assisting people to maintain their mobility and enjoyment in daily life. Services may include rehabilitation services (physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, podiatry, hydrotherapy), health education, group programs, and assessment and advice about equipment. DISABILITY SERVICES: Several disability specific community respite and support services are managed for people with disabilities along with their families. These services aim to provide programs of individual client choice and support the maintenance of the family unit and their chosen lifestyle. COMMUNITY AGED CARE PACKAGES: Planned and coordinated packages of services to help people with complex care needs remain living in their own home. Community aged care packages are designed for each individual and are based on their needs. Clients seeking assistance are assessed by the Aged Care Assessment Team to determine eligibility and level of care required. PASTORAL CARE AND COUNSELLING SERVICES: These services may include: pastoral care, spiritual care, counselling, education, advocacy, loss and grief counselling and bereavement support. VOLUNTEER SERVICES: Volunteers support clients with respite services in their own homes and in residential facilities. Clients are supported through social contact and direct assistance to help maintain their quality of life. VOLUNTEER COMMUNITY ACCESS/TRANSPORT: Volunteers visit clients and assist with transport to/from health facilities, shopping and recreational facilities. This service is not available at all Blue Care Centres. PALLIATIVE CARE: Professional specialised nursing care and support for people with advanced and terminal illnesses and those who care for them. Care includes pain management, home nursing, emotional support and guidance, and bereavement support.

Blue Care - Multi
The Blue Care Multicultural Liaison Coordinators main aim is to assist culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities to access appropriate Home and Community Care (HACC) services. The position is accessible to all HACC services and CALD communities in the West Moreton region and can include for example, providing staff resources, staff training on cultural issues related to health care, systemic or individual advocacy, or HACCs information sessions for CALD groups.

Blue Care Caring
Blue Care Caring Centre offers respite care for frail aged people and people with a disability. Fridays are a culturally specific day catering to persons of Chinese, Malay, Cambodian and Vietnamese backgrounds. A support group for deaf and hearing impaired persons meets on the 1st Monday of each month.

Brighton Community Options
Community Options provides in home support to frail, older persons who have complex needs, younger persons with a disability and their carers. Nominal fess negotiated on individual basis. An inability to pay will not affect delivery of services.

Building Services Authority
Building Services Authority (BSA) is Queensland's Statutory Authority set up to license builders, trade contractors and building designers; resolve disputes regarding defective building work; operate a statutory insurance scheme to protect home-owners against non-completion, defective work and subsidence; and provide information and advice. BSA provides information and advice about BSA services and activities to consumers and contractors throughout Queensland through Customer Service Centres in 8 BSA offices; the BSA website; media releases and articles; Fact Sheets; seminars in Brisbane and regional centres; and participation in trade and industry shows. BSAs Customer Service Officers are able to provide information ranging from licence checks and details about licence holders, through to information about the Statutory Insurance Scheme and BSAs dispute handling procedures. Canossa
Canossa Nursing Home is a 35 bed residential aged care unit that provides "high care". Sixteen of its beds are specifically for the Italian Community. All therapy services are provided on site. Application is made through the Welfare Department. Canossa Ethnic Hostel is a residential aged care facility for Italian and other Ethnic people. It has16 permanent beds and is a part of a complex which includes a nursing home and private hospital.

Care and Support
The Neighbourhood Care and Support Program is an initiative of the Red Hill Paddington Community Centre and is funded by HACC (Home And Community Care). The program is funded to recruit and train volunteers to provide social support and practical assistance to frail aged and people with disabilities living in the local area. Services provided by volunteers include friendly visiting or outings, assistance with shopping, basic gardening, transport in the local area or introducing people to established community activities. The service is offered to anyone who is frail aged, has a disability or is a carer and lives in Red Hill, Paddington, Bardon, Rainworth, Ashgrove or The Gap. This is a free service.

care call
Care Call Emergency Response Service offers a personal alarm service that enables Care Call Operators to respond immediately to clients in an emergency situation. The program involves the client to wear a small, lightweight, waterproof pendant or bracelet and have a Care Call speaker unit plugged into the telephone socket. When the alarm is pressed, it will be answered at the Response Centre. The speaker unit has a highly sensitive microphone and amplifier, which enables the client and Operator to speak to each other, even if the client is one or two rooms away from the unit. Assistance will be either Emergency Services or the family member or friend nominated, who will have given their approval. A Fall Detector device is also available. The pager-size Fall Detector is worn at the waist and can also be manually activated by pressing a button. The Detector uses radio signals so if the wearer falls they do not have to press the pendant or get to a phone to call for help; the Fall Detector automatically contacts the Emergency Response Operator.

Carelink
The Commonwealth Carelink Centres provide a central source of information for the community. Centres can provide information on many services including: * Household help, home modification and maintenance * Personal, nursing and respite care * Transport and meal services * Disability services * Day care and therapy centres * Assessment, including Aged Care Assessment Teams * Special services for dementia * Continence assistance * Support for carers * Community Aged Care Packages * Aged care homes * A range of allied health care (eg podiatry, physiotherapy etc) and * Support groups.

Carers Queensland
Carers Queensland offers an Information and Support Line, referral to HACC and other services in Queensland as well as telephone and face to face counselling for carers. The service provides a carer resource centre with information, support and education available to carers and CALD carers of frail aged, people with a disability, mental illness and chronic illness. Community development workers have support groups throughout the state to work with carers to identify local issues and address them. Community development workers develop projects, network with service providers, provide training to carers and refer carers to appropriate services.

Cathay Club
The Cathay Community Association is a non-profit Chinese organisation providing the following activities: recreational and social events, English lessons, home care and aged care services, social welfare service, settlement information and referral, personal/group capacity building, information/advocacy workshop. The Cathay Computer Centre provides a friendly place for people aged 50 and over to learn computers and access the Internet at a low cost. The centre is entirely run by volunteers who are dedicated to promote multi cultural Australia.

CATS - Pine Rivers
Pine Rivers Community Assisted Transport Service provides transport by volunteers for frail aged people and younger people with disabilities. Clients must be eligible under the HACC program and must not be able to use ordinary means of transport. Transport is available for medical and social purposes. Fees do apply.

Chats
CHATS provides assistance on a voluntary basis with gardening, odd jobs, transport, housework, telephone contact and social visiting. CHATS aims to provide the support not available from other agencies. The service is available to anyone who is frail aged or disabled and who live in Kedron, Wavell or Chermside (and immediate surrounding suburbs). Volunteers may work after hours according to the needs of both the client and the volunteer. All prospective clients are assessed for eligibility. Fees apply for some services, however donations are welcome.

COASIT
Co.As.It. delivers a range of educational, welfare, health and aged care services. Home and Community Care Program (HACC) services include: * In-home Respite Services (social support, respite care, domestic assistance, personal care and other food services) * Centre Based Care * Nursing Care (In-home and Centre Based) * Allied Health Services (In-home and Centre Based - physiotherapy, podiatry) * Counselling/support, information and advocacy, language assistance * Carer support Community Aged Care Packages (CACP): * 55 planned and coordinated packages in Brisbane metropolitan area of up to 10 hours per week community care services to assist elderly with complex needs. 24 hour emergency on call assistance is provided to clients. 10 planned and coordinated packages in the Gold Coast area. Community Support Services: * Community Development * Counselling and support for families and children * Emergency Relief (assistance available to people experiencing financial crisis) Community Visitors Scheme: * One on one Italian volunteer visitors provided to Italian residents of aged care homes who are lonely or socially isolated. Visits include - reading, listening to music, chatting and/or reminiscing, watching TV together, walking together, outings. Education Program: * Italian insertion classes in primary and secondary schools throughout QLD * Italian after hour language classes offered at various locations * Italian adult language classes * Italian Resource Centre

The Commonwealth Regional Information Service (formerly known as Countrylink Australia) provides information on Australian Government Services and Programs for people living outside of the major capital cities. The Freecall service also provides points of referral for further information. Information and points of referral are available for Pensions and Benefits, Employment, Education, Training, Taxation, Health and other services provided by the Government. The service also attends a number of field days and other industry and community events, and provides a free directory of available services and programmes. The Commonwealth Regional Information service also provide information to the public via their community information stands, which are located in many community facilities in regional areas. The Commonwealth Carer Respite Centre is carer focused and provides carers with: * Information, advice and referral to services * Respite booking service * Creative and flexible respite options * One off, short term or episodic respite (not ongoing) * Emotional support * Financial assistance with respite costs where applicable A carer is a family member or friend providing home based support for someone who is: * Frail aged or has Dementia * An adult or child with a disability * A person with chronic illness or needing Palliative care * A person with a Mental Health condition The Commonwealth Carer Respite Centre provides an after hours emergency service also.

comm participation assist tran
The Transport Access Project works in suburbs north of the Brisbane river to inform and create new choices for people who have limited or no access to safe, affordable and assisted transport. The project aims to assist people who have difficulty accessing public or other forms of transport, primarily frail aged and other people with a disability and their carers. Information is provided free of charge, however some transport services may apply a small charge. Transport services are available for trips to shops, doctors, hospital, health services, visit friends and family, paying bills and other destinations.

Committee Ageing - redlands
The Redland District Committee On The Ageing (RDCOTA) is an independent, non-profit organisation that promotes the interests and well-being of citizens over the age of 50 within the Redland Shire. RDCOTA promotes and implements services, developing facilities, recreational events, educational activities and publications which identify and respond to seniors' needs.

Community Care North East Bris
NECC supports people living in the community of North East Brisbane who are frail aged, younger with a disability, or the carers of such individuals. Services provided include centre-based respite, in-home respite, community transport, allied health, social support, carer support, veterans home care program, counselling information, resources, advocacy and an equipment loan library. The Occupational Therapist working from the centre is available for home consultations and to help people maintain safety and independence in the home. The service has a library of aids & devices to allow clients to access occupational therapy equipment for a short period of time. The Occupational Therapist may assist with the choice of appropriate equipment. Regular carers' meetings are held at the centre at which information talks are given and carers have a chance to share information and experience.

Community Health - Inala
The services provided by the Inala Community Health Centre, QEII Hospital Health Service District, Queensland Health include dental health, family health services, mental health services, child health services, HACC, community health nursing services, alcohol and drug services, diabetes education and other health education, confidential counselling, General Practice, Indigenous Health services, developmental assessment and therapy services, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and podiatry. Referrals to self help groups and health welfare services are provided where appropriate. The Inala Community Health Centre offers access to Home and Community Care (HACC) programs, which provide frail aged people, people with a disability and the carers of such people access to practical support services that assist them to continue living in their own home. Developmental Assessment and Therapy Services are provided by a multi-disciplinary team providing assessment and intervention programs for children with developmental and learning problems, as well as support to their families. The service also provides educational programs within the community on issues related to child development. Free general Dental treatment is available to eligible patients (Queensland residents with a health care card, pension card or seniors card). The Centre provides a General Practice. It is unique in that the Practice is jointly managed by both the QEII District and the Centre for General Practice, University of Queensland. Primary services provided by the Practice include family medicine, emergency services, paediatrics/immunisation, antenatal care, pathology collection services, counselling, alcohol and drug (detox), home visits, clinical pharmacy consultations and counselling and education by nurses for diabetes, blood pressure, asthma and smoking The Inala Community Health Centre also has access to interpreters and offers the services of general practitioners and a Spanish interpreter on Wednesdays 9.00 am to 12.00 noon, and the services of general practitioners and a Vietnamese interpreter on Tuesdays 9.00 am to 12.40 pm.

community options - new farm
New Farm Community Options provide case management and in home support for frail aged and younger disabled people and their carers. They also provide Housing Linked Community Care packages, Community Options program, basic care packages, centre based respite and Veterans Home Care services. Community Options also offers a homeless outreach program for frail aged and younger people with a disability who are homeless and a Residents Support Program for residents living in supported accommodation and boarding houses.

Community Options - Sth Bris
The South West Brisbane Community Options provides a range of flexible support programs for the frail elderly, younger disabled and carers. This includes: * Domestic Assistance * Social Support * In Home Respite * Personal Care * Meal Preparation * Banking * Shopping * Case Management and * Advocacy. Other services available include a Homeless Program, Community Aged Care Packages, Community Options Package and Department of Veterans Home Care Packages. Community Volunteers
The Community Volunteer Program provides volunteer visits, transport assistance and social support to persons who are HACC eligible in the Sandgate - South Pine Region.

Complaints Resolution Scheme
Aged Care Complaints Resolution Scheme - Nationwide operating through state offices - is a free and independent service run by the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing. Complaints to the Scheme may be about any aspect of a Commonwealth funded aged care service. However, the concern must involve a possible breach of the aged care service's responsibilities under the Aged Care Act 1997 and Principles. People lodging a complaint might include residents of nursing homes or hostels, their families, staff, and people receiving Community Aged Care Packages. The focus of the scheme is on resolving complaints involving the welfare of individual care recipients. More widespread concerns may be referred to appropriate agencies. Complaints may be made confidentially or anonymously.

connect a vet
Connect A Vet is a program of the Connect The Coast Association. The program works with a group of younger war veterans and returned service personnel who are generally receiving a disability pension for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The group meets weekly and provide peer support for each other as well as undertaking volunteer work in other veterans homes and gardens.

Continence Helpline
National Continence Helpline is a free and confidential service staffed by continence nurses providing information, referral and support and responding to any queries relating to issues of incontinence.

COTA Brisbane
Council on the Ageing Queensland Inc (COTA Q) is a peak consumer organisation for people over the age of 50. COTA Q works to promote and protect the well-being of all older people through policy development and analysis, the management of community projects and providing education and information.

Council Cab - brisbane
Council Cab is Brisbane City Councils shared transport service for those who find it difficult to travel to and from local facilities such as shops and banks. Yellow Cabs operate Council Cab on behalf of the council. To be eligible a person must be over 60, or mobility impaired, or hold a Pension Concession Card, or a carer or minor under the care of any of the above eligible persons and live in the Brisbane metropolitan area. The Council Cab generally operates weekly, in some areas twice weekly, across Brisbane. Destinations and fares vary according to destination and pickup location. To obtain up to date information on destinations, pickup suburbs and prices please visit the Brisbane website and select Transport and Parking then select Council Cabs. Seats are limited so bookings are essential. You can book up to 12.00 noon on the day before the service. You can request a wheelchair accessible vehicle when you book. Craigslea Senior citizens
The Craigslea Senior Citizens club offers activities such as cards, entertainment and indoor bowls. The group also conducts bus trips. The group meets 3 Wednesdays every month with a different activity each week.

Crestmead Commu
The Crestmead Community Centre is a community based service and supports the community by providing the following services: senior citizens' activities, martial arts, artists group, yoga, crisis counselling, referral, information services, youth recreation programs and emergency relief.

Cwealth Dept Health and Ageing
The Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing (formerly known as the Dept of Health and Aged Care) is responsible for promoting good health and ensuring Australians have access to key health services, including aged and community care services, public health initiatives, Medicare and pharmaceutical benefits, hospital and health care funding, and health services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. The Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing are also responsible for establishing guidelines for the cost of residential aged care (hostels and nursing homes). The Department of Health and Ageing also runs the Aged Care Information Line 1800 500 853.

Day Respite - Inala
The Inala Day Respite Centre offers day care for frail aged people, and younger people with disabilities. The service can provide transport with wheelchair lift, visiting hairdresser, podiatrist, activities and meals.

The Dementia Helpline Statewide service provides information, support and referral for people with dementia, their carers and families, service provides, students and the wider community. For current details about the nearest carers support groups call the Dementia Helpline. A range of information sheets on various topics relating to dementia are available, as well as a library of dementia specific books and videos.

dementia behaviour advisory
The National Dementia Behaviour Advisory Service (NDBAS) provides advice on managing behaviours of concern to those who care for a person with dementia. This confidential assistance is available 24 hours a day to respite care staff, health professionals and family carers. NDBAS can help you: · Gain an understanding of the behaviour you are observing in your role · Identify factors that may trigger these behaviours of concern · Develop strategies to reduce the frequency and impact of behaviours of concern · Contact services and support

Dept Veterans Affairs
The Department of Veterans Affairs is a Australian Government Department. It has three main functions: Care, Compensation and Commemoration for the men and women who served in defence of the nation. The Veterans Affairs Network can * Answer questions and provide information about DVA pensions and allowances and about health care eligibility * Provide up to date information and advice on the health and support services available through DVA or in the community and * Work with Ex Service Organisations and community agencies to develop programs to meet local needs of the community. SERVICE PENSION A service pension is paid to a veteran who has a qualifying service (which means that a veteran must have served in an area where there was danger from enemy forces - for Commonwealth and Allied Veterans such service must have been during a conflict in which Australian Forces were involved) and who has attained the age of 60 if male, or 56 years if female, or who is permanently incapacitated for employment (incapacity does not have to relate to accepted disabilities). DISABILITY PENSION A disability pension is a benefit paid to Australian Veterans or eligible dependents as a compensation for incapacity and death which has been determined to have been caused by the veteran's service. Conditions for eligible service periods apply. HEALTH CARE The DVA provides a broad range of health care services for eligible veterans and dependants with the Local Medical Officer (LMO) authorised to arrange access to many services beyond general practitioner services. An entitled veteran or dependant receives a treatment entitlement card coloured either gold, which covers treatment of all conditions, or white, which covers only treatment of war or service related conditions. MILITARY REHABILITATION AND COMPENSATION SCHEME (MRCS) This scheme provides rehabilitation and/or compensation to serving members, reservists, and their dependants. DEFENCE SERVICE HOMES BENEFITS (DSH) The DSH scheme provides financial benefits in the form of a subsidised housing loan to those persons who have completed a qualifying period of service in the Defence Force in either wartime or peacetime. Diversicare
Diversicare provides services to aged persons, mainly those from ethnic backgrounds. These services include meal preparation, home help, personal care, in-home and/or non centre based respite, carer support, escorted transport services to medical and allied health appointments, case management, information and advocacy.

Diversional Therapy
Association members provide lifestyle and leisure programs in various settings for people with disabilities of all ages. The association provides professional education programs and can also assist with resources and carer education through talks and short courses.

Elder Abuse Prevention
The Elder Abuse Prevention Unit (EAPU) offers a statewide helpline for support, information and referrals for those experiencing or witnessing abuse to older persons. The unit also runs community awareness raising seminars and in-service training for staff. In addition to Brisbane there are outreach workers in Cairns, Rockhampton and Warwick.

Ethnic Comm Coun Sth Bris
The Ethnic Communities Council of Qld provides the following services: COMMUNITY AGED/DISABILITY CARE PROGRAM - The focus of this program is on assisting clients to remain in their homes. The Program, through Diversicare takes into account lifestyle, cultural background and religious beliefs. IN-HOME RESPITE - Culturally and linguistically appropriate In-Home Respite, available through Diversicare offers assessment, care, planning and co-ordination for frail aged/disabled persons. It also supports mainstream HACC services through cross-cultural training and workshop programs, also through ECCQ's Diversicare. DAY RESPITE - Provides culturally and linguistically appropriate Day Respite. The Program is based on the cluster model which groups clients according to the similarities of their culture, diet, etc. OLDER PERSONS ACTION GROUP - supporting NESB seniors with social issues, isolation problems and mental health issues. AGED CARE - Full residential and respite care for NESB aged at Berlasco Court. SEXUAL HEALTH PROGRAM - ECCQ. with funding from Queensland Health, designs and conducts sexual health education and awareness programs in Queensland. The education programs raise awareness about issues related to sexual health such as HIV/AIDS, different STD, STIs, breast cancer, cervical cancer, testicular cancer and Hepatitis C. The program also produces and distributes resources related to sexual health in various languages.

Excelsior
The Excelsior Club Maryborough Inc. is a charitable organisation whose major objective is the alleviation of social isolation for the elderly. Excelsior meets one day per week for an average of 46 weeks of the year. The Club provides meeting facilities and free door to door transport for members who are unable to access club facilities by public or other facilities, (does not cover those with severe disabilities who need taxi services). The Club provides personal encouragement, board games, entertainment, music, community singing, reading for visually handicapped, shared meals, information sessions, (group and personal as requested) and encourages small friendship groups of compatible members for out of meetings mutual support. Periodic activities include bus trips to places of interest, annual church parades (non-denominational), celebration of national and local days of importance, home and hospital visits. The Club participates in health promotion programs and also promotes aspects of personal and kitchen hygiene, diet and lifestyle. It encourages members to make medical and other appointments on club days to facilitate assistance. The Excelsior Club gives relief in emergencies, assists with personal administration as requested, liaises with a law firm to assist members with legal matters at a nominal cost, cooperates with Government initiatives to assist the elderly and assists members with care arrangements when requested. It also encourages spiritual wellbeing. To ensure the financial viability of Excelsior, members pay a nominal fee each week.

Financial Industry Complaints
The Financial Industry Complaints Service is a company that has been set up to provide free advice and assistance if you are a life insurance or superannuation policy holder, have products sold by licensed security dealers, financial planners, or problems with responsible entities who are fund managers and are not satisfied with the written response the member gave to your enquiry or complaint. The FICS is a free and confidential service providing impartial advice and decisions to all individuals residing within Australia. The service draws on the professional knowledge of staff who have gained many years practical experience in the financial industry. All the costs of operating the Financial Industry Complaints Service are fully paid for by the members. Being funded in this way means the expense of running the service doesn't cost Australian taxpayers any money, nor will individuals be charged anything for using the service.

Finnish Home Care Service provides home and community care services to frail elderly people and younger people with disabilities of Finnish background.

Flexi Care Inc
Flexi Care Inc auspices 4 services which provide assistance to frail aged people, people with a disability and the carers of such people, with the goal of avoiding premature or long term residential care. The services available include veterans' home care, domestic assistance, personal care and respite. Veterans and widows with a gold or white card are eligible. COMMUNITY OPTIONS: Flexible packages of care including personal care, respite, shopping, meal preparation, housework, etc. COMMUNITY CARE PACKAGES: Flexible care packages for persons with complex needs. Packages are tailored to each client's needs. PODIATRY: Provides appropriate Podiatric care to HACC eligible clients. OTHER: Veterans home care Provides domestic assistance Personal Respite Care

GAGS
Grandparents and Grandchildren Society (GAGS) is a support group for Grandparents who are raising their Grandchildren. GAGS aim to help alleviate the feelings of loneliness and isolation from one's peer group. This is achieved through promoting regular social interaction via regular meetings, functions and general get-togethers where people can share information. Monthly Barbeques and a clothing pool are also available. A database of phone contacts and a regular newsletter are available. GAGS also acts as a lobby group for grandparenting matters. GAGS offers telephone support and access to Group Leaders in times of crisis. GAGS are also able to link or refer you to appropriate people or resources who are best suited to provide the right help, advice or assistance.

Greek Respite Centre
The Greek Respite Centre provides home delivered meals, carer support, home help, advocacy, counselling, transport, a Community Options Program and day care centres. These services are provided, after assessment, to people mainly of Greek origin who are disabled, frail aged or suffering from mental illness.

Greenslopes Baptist Church
The Greenslopes Baptist Church offers a range of social and leisure activities. YOUTH GROUP - High school age. Each Friday from 7.30pm - 9.30pm. ALL AGE ACTIVITIES - A fun morning of bowls, board games, morning tea, devotions and regular organised bus trips. Held every 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month 9.30a.m. to 12.00 noon. Contact 3399 7282. LADIES FELLOWSHIP - 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month. Includes speakers on a range of topics, and morning tea. Home Assist Secure aims to remove some of the practical housing related difficulties experienced by older people and people with a disability who wish to remain living in their home. Home Assist Secure provides free information and advice about home maintenance, repairs, modifications and home security. Subsidised assistance with minor home maintenance, repairs, modifications and security which relate to health, safety and security may also be available for eligible clients. To be eligible for free information and advice, people must be 60 years and over or of any age with a disability, and own their own home or live in private rental housing. To be eligible for subsidised assistance, people must be in receipt of a Commonwealth Government pension or benefit and be unable to make use of alternative assistance such as family or friends or other Government programs eg. Home and Community Care (HACC) or services provided by the Department of Veteran's Affairs. An occupational therapist must be engaged and an assessment completed for determining need and location of medical aids. Eg. grab rails, ramps etc. Home assist can help in this area. People living in rental properties must have written permission from their landlord prior to the commencement of any work that permanently attaches to or removes from any part of the property belonging to the landlord.

HACC Home Modifications service aims to assist frail aged and younger disabled persons to remain in their own homes by providing necessary modifications on the clients existing home. The Home Modifications service can provide information on options available to meet client needs and assistance in obtaining the services of an Occupational Therapists, planning the modification and obtaining quotes, employing suitably qualified tradespersons and negotiating time frames. Financial Assistance may also be provided in meeting the cost of modifications.

Hadden Place
Hadden Place provides respite and support for the carers of dementia sufferers in the community. People with dementia are cared for in a safe, relaxed and homely environment. Services provided include nursing care, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, podiatry, counselling, meals and transport. Socialisation and activities are suited to individual needs and are aimed at meeting physical, spiritual, social and emotional needs.

The Health Services Info Line provides a wide range of information about health and community services in and around the Brisbane area. Information and service referrals include support groups, baby health clinics, counselling, assistance with specific diseases and pensioner concessions for spectacles, hearing aids and similar equipment. Information is also available on special services for ethnic groups, gender specific services, age specific services and disabled services.

Heartline is an information service run by the Heart Foundation of Australia. Information is provided on all issues affecting the heart such as risk factors, nutrition, blood pressure, smoking cessation, exercise and heart surgery. Support programs and information booklets are also available.

Home Assist/Secure General
The Department of Housing, through Home Assist Secure, aims to remove some of the practical housing related difficulties experienced by people with a disability and people over 60 years of age who wish to remain living in their home. Home Assist Secure provides free information and referrals about home maintenance, repairs, modifications and home security. To be eligible, a person must be a home-owner or live in private rental housing. Subsidised assistance with minor home maintenance, repairs, modifications and security is also available for eligible clients who are in receipt of an Australian Government allowance or payment, and are unable to make use of alternative assistance. Home Community Care Resource
The HACC Resource Unit is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) which supports accredited training to the staff of HACC funded service providers. These providers are organisations which provide a range of services such as domestic assistance, personal care, social support, respite care, nursing services, delivered meals, transport and home maintenance, to meet the needs of frail aged people, younger people with disabilities and their carers living in the community. The Unit manages the statewide HACC information strategy as well as training programs and an extensive library of resource materials for HACC service providers.

Inala Senior Cits
The Inala Senior Citizens provide leisure activities including bingo, indoor bowls, concerts and bus trips.

Incapacitated servicemen/women
The Incapacitated Servicemen and Women's Association aims to assist in the welfare of ex servicemen and women, including current serving members, their bereaved spouses, dependents and families. Services include tribunal work with pension appeals.

independent retirees
The Association aims to protect and advance the interests of retirees who have funded, in whole or in part, their own retirement. The Association provides information for retirees not entitled to full social security benefits and is involved in advocacy and other activities. Each branch holds monthly meetings to keep members informed of, and involved in, a wide range of retirement issues. There are 18 branches Queensland wide and therefore it is suggested that the Queensland Division should be contacted for details about local branches and operating hours.

Info Line - Retirement Investm
National Information Centre on Retirement Investments Inc (NICRI) provides a free, independent and confidential service which aims to improve the quality of investment information provided to people who possess modest savings which they are seeking to invest, and to people who may be facing redundancy. The service is open to anyone needing information on investment products, to discuss their financial situation or to obtain details on where to find further assistance.

Insurance claim
The General Insurance Enquiries and Complaints Scheme is a national Scheme for consumers aimed at resolving disputes between insureds and their insurance companies, or claimants who have a dispute with another person's insurance company in relation to motor vehicle property damage (i.e.: third party claim). The Scheme also provides free advice and information about any general insurance matters. The Scheme can determine disputes about claims only. Other matters, such as an insurer's marketing or underwriting practice, cannot be determined unless they directly relate to a claim.

Intouch
Intouch (formerly PQ Lifestyles) is Australia's leading continence product supplier. The company administers the Federally funded Continence Aids Assistance Scheme (CAAS), and is one of three national suppliers to the Department of Veterans Affairs Rehabilitation Appliance Program (RAP) and provides continence supplies to Queensland Healths Medical Aids subsidy scheme (MASS). Free product catalogue, free samples, seniors and other discounts. Orders taken by telephone, e-mail, fax, post or internet. National product delivery to the client's door.

Islamic
The Islamic Women's Association of Queensland Inc addresses three services: * Community Aged Care Packages * Islamic Community HACC * Multicultural Innovative Dementia Service Pilot (MIDSP) These services cater for the special needs of CALD Muslim frail and aged people through the provision of high-quality care provided by staff sensitive to their religious, cultural and linguistic needs. The Islamic Community HACC also caters for the special needs of people with disabilities. Two part time settlement officers are also available, as well as a Psychologist for counselling. A pilot program for people with dementia who have high needs is also being run for 3 years, and is assessed through ACAT.

Jubilee Comm Care
Jubilee Community Care Association assists older frail people to stay in their own homes for as long as possible. The area covered is bounded by Waterworks Rd, Kelvin Grove Rd, Brisbane River from Milton Reach to the Walter Taylor Bridge, east of the Western Freeway and Mt Coot-tha. The range of services include: * housework and laundry * personal care * meal preparation * shopping, paying bills, banking * social support and activities * access and referral to other services such as domiciliary nursing, respite care, meals, allied health and home maintenance. The association is a non profit, non government community organisation with a voluntary Board of Management.

Jubilee Comm Care Assoc Inc
Community Care Packages are planned and coordinated packages of community care services which assist people with complex needs to remain living in their own homes and which prevent premature and inappropriate admission to long term residential care. These services offer home care and various support groups, including self-help. Packages are provided for people with special needs such as indigenous elders, people from non-english speaking backgrounds, people who are financially and socially disadvantaged and people with dementia, intellectual disabilities or mental illness. Jubilee Community Care employs a group of skilled home care workers who can help with personal care, laundry, mobility, shopping, meal preparations, library visits, transport, some home aids, equipment and light house duties. To be eligible for assistance individuals must be assessed by a member of the Aged Care Assessment Team.

Killara Day Respite
Killara Place provides day respite for frail aged clients. Physiotherapy and podiatry services are also available.

Library Housebound Service
Library Housebound Service provides a mobile library to people confined to their homes.

Library Talking Book Service
The Library Talking Book Service provides a recorded book service to people who cannot read because of impaired sight or specific learning disability.

Low Vision Care
The Low Vision Care Centre is aimed at helping people with visual impairment to find the most appropriate methods of performing their everyday tasks.

Meals on Wheels
Meals on Wheels is a community based service that prepares and personally delivers nutritious, balanced meals to eligible clients. Clients may be frail, aged, younger disabled and their carers who find it difficult due to age, infirmity or medical condition to prepare their own meals. The service may be provided on a short or long term basis, subject to assessed need. GPs, Community Health Workers, Hospitals, Domiciliary Nursing Services, Families and Neighbours may refer clients to their local Meals on Wheels Service for appropriate assessment. Special diets such as Diabetes, Soft Serve, Food Intolerances and Ethnic Sensitivities are catered for.

Medical Aid Subsidy Scheme
Medical Aid Subsidy Scheme (MASS) provides assistance for the provision of endorsed aids and equipment to eligible Queensland residents who suffer permanent or stabilised disabilities. Such aids and equipment may include the supply of oxygen, mobility aids and continence aids. Both administrative and clinical eligibility rules are applied to the application process. Eligibility is based on the possession of specific Government Concession Cards and the need for the aids and equipment to be used as primary health items in the home.

Ministerial Council Older Pers
The Ministerial Advisory Council for Older Persons strives to facilitate the participation of older Queenslanders in ageing issues and provide a forum for increased cooperation and coordination across government and community sectors.

MNDA News Queensland
The Motor Neurone Disease Association of Queensland strives to provide information and assistance to people living with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), their families and carers. Services offered include: * Patient aids to assist in daily living, i.e. wheelchairs, communication aids, etc. * Support groups offer assistance and support to families in their areas. * Rural information and lecture tours are conducted. * Fundraising to assist with research into MND. Meetings are held monthly and a bi-monthly newsletter is provided to MND people.

Mount Olivet Community Services is a Catholic, non-profit health and aged care organisation under the care of the Sisters of Charity. Its aim is to provide care to the whole person, with acceptance, compassion, and the highest standards of appropriate medical and nursing care, irrespective of the patients religious, social or cultural background. Multi Centre for Mental Health
The Multicultural Centre for Mental Health and Well Being Inc (formerly known as Ethnic Mental Health Program) provides information to people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, their families and carers about Mental Health, Mental Illness & Mental Health Services. This is a free and confidential service. The Program provides support for people with mental illness, their families and carers. It links these people with mainstream mental health services. The Program also promotes mental health and prevention via group activities.

National Seniors assoc
National Seniors is a membership based not for profit organisation representing Australians aged 50 plus, with a membership of 230,000 Australia wide. A powerful lobby force at all levels of government on issues that affect the over 50s, National Seniors has 130 branches Australia wide. It publishes its own colour bi monthly lifestyle magazine 50 something, its own travel agency for members, National Seniors Tours and has numerous alliances with service providers and businesses offering exclusive benefits, discounts and savings to National Seniors members. National Seniors also has a charitable arm National Seniors Foundation.

Neighbourhood Watch
The national mission statement for Neighbourhood Watch is to promote safety, security and quality of life. Neighbourhood Watch is a program organised by the community in order to reduce residential crime. Householders are encouraged to join together in small informal groups for the purpose of improving the safety of their families and other neighbourhood residents. By working together, neighbours can assist each other to reduce crime in their area. Benefits to be derived from the program can be: a safer place to live, less fear of crime in the area, and a better lifestyle through sharing responsibilities and caring for others. As there are over 700 groups in Queensland it is suggested that anyone interested in becoming involved contact their local police station for information about the group in their area.

Office of Hearing Services
Office of Hearing Services (Federal) provides assessment of individuals with hearing disabilities and for individuals who meet the appropriate criteria, eligibility to a hearing program is offered. This program is free of charge. However individuals are responsible for meeting the costs of maintenance on hearing aids and other hearing devices. The initial cost of a basic hearing aid is provided free of charge. For individuals wishing to purchase a higher grade of hearing aid, the expense is at the purchaser's cost.

Older People Speak Out
Older People Speak Out is an independent, free-spirited group with the experience, knowledge and qualifications to speak out on older people's issues without fear or favour. OPSO consults with older people and researches needs and issues, and lobbies government, professional organisations and businesses, and the whole community. The organisation also conducts a broad range of communication courses and teaches people to speak out on their own behalf. Members consult with people across Queensland, and act as a contact for older people wishing to bring their concerns and issues to the stakeholders. OPSO also runs Years Ahead courses with the RACQ for organisations wishing to update their members' driving skills.

Older Womens Network
OWN is a network for older women and has individual groups to offer caring, support and friendship. The service aims to encourage life enrichment, mutual support and companionship amongst older women, to promote discussion and action about ageism and sexism, and to lobby for a fairer deal on issues affecting older women such as income, security, work opportunities, housing, health, home and community care and transport. The agency provides information and education and works to enhance the positive image of older women.

Osteoporosis Queensland
Osteoporosis QLD provides prevention and self management courses designed to help develop confidence in how to prevent osteoporosis or minimise its effects. Information resources are available on prevention and management of osteoporosis. The telephone helpline is staffed by health professionals.

Over fifties B
The Bargara Over Fifties Club meets each Monday from 1.30pm - 4.00pm. Activities include hoy, bus trips, dinner outings, indoor bowls, darts, Mah -Jongg, card games, craft, guest speakers and demonstrations.

Patients travel sub scheme
Queensland Health Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme provides financial assistance to patients who need to access specialist medical services not available within their local area. Queensland Health administers the Scheme through its network of public hospitals. These hospitals are in turn responsible to Health Service Districts that are managed by District Managers. The Scheme can provide a subsidy towards the cost of travel and accommodation for patients and in some cases their escorts who are required to accompany them. To apply for the Scheme the doctor who refers the patient to a specialist will complete a form and the patient must take this to the public hospital nearest to their permanent place of residence. The hospital will process the application and determine if the patient is eligible for assistance. Assistance can only be given when the application has been approved prior to travel, except in special circumstances. Travel assistance is provided to the patient and their approved escort for the cost of the cheapest appropriate form of public transport from the terminal in the town where the hospital is located, to the transport terminal in the town to which the patient is travelling. A subsidy is also available for use of a private motor vehicle. The Scheme provides a subsidy only and does not cover all the costs associated with travel. To be eligible for the Scheme you need a current Medicare Card and be a permanent resident of Queensland. The service for which you are seeking travel subsidy must be classified as essential and not available within 50 kilometres of your nearest public hospital. The patient must be referred by a registered medical practitioner. You need to contact the public hospital nearest to your permanent place of residence.

Pine Rivers Resp - Petrie
The Pine Rivers Disability Service is a community-based organisation providing support and assistance to H.A.C.C. eligible clients and families. The Disability Service supports families by providing assistance with either: In-home Respite, Community Access Respite, or Centre Based Day Respite.

Pine Rivers Shire Council Serv
The Pine Rivers Respite and Support Services provides assistance to the frail older people and younger people with disabilities who are eligible under the Home and Community Care Program (HACC). Services include:- TRANSPORT supplied by volunteers for medical and social purposes. Fees do apply. HOME ASSIST SECURE for assistance, advice and information on home repairs, maintenance and security. DISABILITY SERVICES is provided centre-based, and in-home for younger people with a disability who live in Strathpine, Dayboro, Burpengary areas. Care may be provided during the week and/or at weekends. A small fee applies. MOBILE DAY RESPITE SERVICE is provided to assist frail, elderly people to remain at home. Eligibility is required. A small fee is applicable. DAY CARE/IN-HOME RESPITE - is available for a small fee. Transport is provided to and from the Centres where appropriate. HAIRDRESSER services are available for a small fee. PODIATRIST services are available for a small fee.

Qld Community Care Network Inc
The Queensland Community Care Network Inc. was established to provide broad-based community services directly to people requiring some level of community or home support such as the elderly, the disadvantaged and people with disabilities. Community Care Network is the sponsor of: * Community Visitors Scheme - Volunteers visit residents in nursing homes on a one to one basis. * 100 Plus Club - Exclusive club for centenarians for social interaction. * Community Care Groups in Rural Areas - Volunteers provide support to individuals in their local district.

Residents of QLD
The Association of Residents of QLD Retirement Villages Inc exists to advance and protect the interests of retirement village residents. The Association provides advocacy for residents and canvasses issues affecting their welfare, as well as encouraging and assisting village resident committees. The Association is non-intrusive and respects the autonomy of village committees, and is entirely non-sectarian and non-political. The Association believes that retirement villages are the preferred housing choice for the Third Age, with the potential to deliver the optimum lifestyle to residents, and the goal of the Association is to ensure that they do.

Respite Centre Enoggera
The Enoggera Respite Centre offers centre based day respite, in-home respite and social support by way of shopping and transport to medical appointments for the frail aged and younger people with a disability. The centre also has a veterans homecare program. Enoggera Respite Centre operates in Alderley, Stafford, Mitchelton, Keperra, Everton Park and Enoggera.

Gordon Park Day Respite Centre offers centre based and in-home respite services for persons with dementia and their carers. The aim of the Centres services for the person with dementia is to maintain dignity and valued social roles, to encourage independence and social interaction and to respect the person with dementia as an individual in surroundings that are comfortable, safe and secure. The aim of the Centres services for carers of people with dementia who receive respite services is to provide the carer with a break from their caring role and to provide information, support and counselling. In cases of financial difficulty, the Centre Manager may offer fee relief from some of the fees. This may be discussed confidentially with the Centre Manager. After hours respite care available depending on need.

RSL Care
RSL Care is a leading provider of health and care services to ex-service men and women, their families and other members of the broader community throughout Queensland. The organisation provides retirement villages, residential care facilities and HomeCare services. HomeCare is a flexible service that enables people to live independently in a retirement village or their own home. Services include community nursing, personal care, transport, assistance with dressing and grooming, packaged meals and domestic help. Key volunteer services include home visits and social support. The cost of HomeCare services will vary depending on whether the client is eligible for government funded programs and which programs they are eligible for. Most programs require a minimal co-payment.

Safe & Confident Living
The Safe and Confident Living Program aims to support older people in maintaining and extending their participation in their communities. The Program works with older people who have reduced quality of life or who are at risk of social isolation as a result of their perception or experience of crime. The Program provides accurate information on the incidence of crime in the area and provides access to information on personal and community safety. The Safe and Confident Living Program also aims to increase confidence among older people by informing them about services and supports that are available in the community and by developing methods of linking older people into these services.

The Camp Hill Senior Citizens meet every 2nd Wednesday. Activities include bowls, bingo, concerts, hoy, bus trips and demonstrations.

Senior Shopper
The Senior Shopper is a free, independent, shop at home service which aims to get Seniors' Card holders the best price on a wide range of goods or services. Senior Shopper is only available to Seniors' Card and Seniors' Business Discount Card holders. Goods or services available through the Senior Shopper include electrical goods, mowers, power tools, cameras, motor vehicles, computers, furniture, travel and many more items.

SeniorNet
SeniorNet is an association of seniors assisting other seniors to acquire computer skills. Various courses are available through the SeniorNet training Workshop, offering members of the association hands-on training ranging from basic computer skills to using e-mail and the Internet. Information on other branches can be accessed through the Ipswich contact.

Seniors Card
If you are over 60 you are eligible for either a Seniors Card or a Seniors Business Discount Card. SENIORS CARD Offers Government Concessions and Business Discounts for Queensland residents: * Either 65 years and over and working less than 35 hours per week, or * Aged 60 to 64; working less than 35 hours per week; and receiving a concession card from either Centrelink or the Department of Veterans Affairs. SENIORS BUSINESS DISCOUNT CARD Offers business discounts only and is available to all Queensland residents aged 60 and over who do not qualify for a Seniors Card. Seniors Business Discount Card holders are automatically upgraded to a Seniors Card once they turn 65 provided they are working less than 35 hours per week. Seniors Card and Seniors Business Discount Card are issued to cardholders as permanent lifetime cards. This means that they do not expire and they do not need to be renewed. However, if a cardholder loses their card, they may simply call Seniors Card to be issued with a replacement.

Seniors Enquiry Line
Seniors Enquiry Line is a Queensland wide information and referral service which links seniors, their families, friends and carers with information on government and community services throughout the state. The service is funded by the Queensland Government's Department of Families. Information categories include retirement accommodation, law and justice, leisure, health, personal support, finance, concessions, education, transport, advocacy and many other topics relevant to Queensland Seniors.

Silver Cord Telephone Reassure
The St John Ambulance Silver Cord Service is funded both by St John and HACC, and is free to clients. Trained volunteers make regular telephone calls at set times to people in the community who need support. The security calls are daily and if the client does not answer a security process is activated, using the client's own contacts, or finally, the police, to check on their safety and wellbeing. This service helps clients to remain in their own homes. Friendship calls are less frequent but also very regular, and provide clients with a much-needed link with the outside world. Both these types of calls can lead to enduring friendships and are life enhancing and empowering, for volunteer and client alike.

South Street Club
The South Street Club provides activities and entertainment for both men and women living in Ipswich and surrounding areas. The club is open every day and offers indoor bowls, cards, craft, guest speakers and occasional bus trips to places of interest.

St John Ambulan
St John Ambulance offers first aid training and kits, volunteer first aid and community care services.

St Lukes Nursing
St Lukes Nursing Service provides a variety of caring services aimed at enabling individuals to access health care in the comfort, safety and security of their own homes. The organisation is funded through various programs from both State and Federal sources. Client services are provided by a range of health care professionals. Programs and Services provided by St Lukes Nursing Service at various centres include: * Home Nursing & Physiotherapy * Post Acute Care - Monitoring and supervision of post-surgical treatments and progress. * Palliative Care - 24hr on-call palliative service - this service extends to clients within the Brisbane, Redlands and Logan areas. * Positive Directions (previously HAU Unit) - Aims to reduce the impact of HIV infection on people living with HIV / AIDS by the provision of quality holistic care, collaboration with other services and educational programs. * Multicultural Program - St Lukes provides cross-cultural education inclusive of interpreter services to respond to the needs of non-English speaking communities. * Illicit Drug Program - Relapse prevention program. * Community Care Packages * Veterans' Home Care * Personal Care Services * Post Natal Care - For mothers and their babies. * Private Clients - Home Nursing * Social Support Services * Assisted Shopping * In-Home Respite Programs may differ from area to area.

St Vincents - assistance
Ozcare (formerly St Vincents Community Services) - Assistance and Care for Housing of the Aged - Statewide operates 2 Assistance and Care for Housing of the Aged Programs throughout South East Queensland. These services are located at North Brisbane and South Brisbane. Some assistance is available to those located at Sunshine Coast. The aim of the service is to prevent premature institutionalisation of frail aged people and to assist frail, financially disadvantaged older people who are living in rental properties to meet both their accommodation and support needs. St Vincents - Community Aged
Ozcare (formerly St Vincents Community Services) - Community Aged Care Packages - Statewide provides Community Aged Care Packages throughout Queensland. They are located at Cairns, Malanda, Babinda, Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Maryborough, Sunshine Coast, Clontarf, Brisbane North, Brisbane South, Redlands, Ipswich, Logan, Gold Coast and Toowoomba. The aim of the service is to enhance the lifestyles of frail aged persons living in the community through the provision of coordinated in home care. This head office can provide details of local services.

St Vincents - Day Respite
Ozcare (formerly St Vincents Community Services) Day Respite services aim to provide respite to carers through the provision of centre based care. This ensures that the person being cared for can be left in a responsible environment while the carer has a break and the participant has socialisation and access to a range of services. The service operates five Day Respite Centres in Townsville, Queensland. They are located at Clontarf, Runaway Bay, Ashmore, Burleigh Heads and Windsor. This head office can provide details of local services.

St Vincents - Domiciliary
Ozcare (formerly St Vincents Community Services) Community Nursing Service - Statewide provides holistic care to the community throughout Queensland. As well as general nursing care, a number of specialist and allied health services are provided including lymphedema massage, palliative care, stomal therapy, continence promotion, physiotherapy, podiatry, support and counselling, immunisation services, nursing care to Veterans, and Residential Drug and Alcohol treatment services. Ozcare also provide Community Care Services including personal care, respite care including for specific programs, eg. Dementia and Challenging Behaviours, also centre based respite, domestic duties, community aged care packages, EACH packages. There are Ozcare Nursing branches operating in Brisbane, Bundaberg, Cairns, Emerald, Gemfields, Blackwater, Gold Coast, Mackay, Maryborough, Redcliffe, Rockhampton, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba and Townsville. Ozcare head office can provide details of locations and service types provided within regions, statewide.

STAR
Special Transport Assistance Redlands Association Inc (STAR) provides transport to Home And Community Care (HACC) eligible clients in the Redlands shire. To be eligible for STAR'S services clients must be living at home and are frail or at-risk aged persons with moderate to severe disability, younger disabled persons with moderate to severe disability, or a carer of these clients and living in Redlands and must be unable to access a private vehicle or use public transport. Users of the service can keep medical appointments, do their shopping, visit a friend or relative, and other things that are important to the person and their quality of life. A subsidised fare applies to the service.

Superannuation Guarantee Hotli
Superannuation Guarantee Hotline is provided through the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and provides free information and referral on matters relating to superannuation.

Taxi Subsidy
The taxi subsidy scheme is an initiative of Queensland Transport's Public Transport Division. It aims to improve the mobility of persons with severe disabilities. The service is controlled by the Department of Transport, provided by Home and Community Care (HACC) and jointly funded by State and Federal Governments. To be eligible to participate in the Taxi Subsidy Scheme you must have a severe permanent or temporary disability and be a permanent resident of Queensland. The application will be assessed by Queensland Health on one of the following criteria: 1. Physical disability requiring dependence on a wheelchair for all mobility outside the home. 2. Severe ambulatory problem that cannot functionally be improved and restricts walking to an extremely limited distance. 3. Total loss of vision or severe visual impairment. 4. Severe and uncontrollable epilepsy with seizures involving loss of consciousness. 5. Intellectual disability resulting in the need to be accompanied by another person at all times for travel on public transport. 6. Severe emotional and/or behaviour disorders with a level of disorganisation resulting in the need to be accompanied by another person at all times for travel on public transport. Travel costs half the prescribed taxi fare, the maximum subsidy is $25 per trip. In addition to conventional taxis, vehicles specially modified to accept wheelchairs are being made available.

The Henderson Centre
The Henderson Centre provides respite care on a daily basis to people who are frail aged, people who have dementia and the younger disabled. Also offered are podiatry and continence clinic services. Carer support and meetings are held monthly. Activities offered at the Centre include concerts, gentle exercise, picnics and social activities. The area covered by The Henderson Centre is from Toowong to Moggill. An outreach centre is also operated on Wednesday and Friday at St Lucia. Eligibility for the service is through the Home and Community Care (HACC) assessment process.

Transport Options Program
Transport Options Project (TOPS) links HACC eligible individuals such as frail aged people and younger people with disabilities to transport options within the southern suburbs of Brisbane.

u3a Redlands
U3A is a self help education movement which caters for persons in the 'third age' and for those who have retired, promoting the concept of studying simply for the joy of learning. It is not a formal University, and does not offer formal qualifications nor set academic qualifications as a pre requisite for entry. There are no exams. Classes are held in many areas and also in private homes. The service plays a vital role in improving the quality of life of retired persons. The courses are run by volunteer tutors and include: Armchair Travel and Tourism, Art Appreciation, Astronomy, Book Discussion, Botany Walk, Candlewicking, Card Making, Chess, Computer and Internet Creative Writing and Discussion, Cryptic Crosswords, Drama, Playreading and Poetry, English Country Dancing, Enjoyment of Classical Music, Feldenkrais Awareness through Movement, Flower Arranging, French Conversation, French Language, Fun with Music, German (for Beginners and Second Class), Italian Language, Japanese Language, Ladies Discussion Group, Life in Australia, Mah-jongg, Manual Arts, Meditation, Musical Productions, Patchwork and Quilling, Practical Art, Psychology, Rambling in the Redlands, Scrabble, Solo Cards, Introduction to Yoga, Cycling, Dining Out, Gardening and Political Scienct.

Uniting Community - Balmoral
The Balmoral Uniting Community Centre provides activities for frail aged and younger disabled people.

Verona
Verona House is an aged care residential facility. It has 76 permanent beds and 2 respite beds. This facility is part of a large complex which includes an Ethnic Hostel, Private Hospital and Nursing Home.

The War Widows Guild of Australia (Qld) Inc watches over and protects the interests of war widows. The Guild also provides Friendship clubs, holiday accommodation, housing and assistance with welfare benefits.

Wesley Mission Brisbane
Wesley Mission Brisbane is committed to the area of aged care and community services. Emergency relief is offered in the form of food parcels and other financial assistance such as food vouchers may be arranged by appointment, if funds allow.
