| Want
to become a member of ACROSSnet? There is no cost for this service.
Being an ACROSSnet member means you can do things that casual
ACROSSnet users can't – like:
• have access to discussion forums;
• participate in scheduled chats with experts in the
field; and
• ask for and receive internet based information from
the ACROSSnet Senior Research Associate on suicide prevention
related topics of interest.
• You'll also be automatically subscribed to ACROSSnet’s
own regular update service.
Membership of the ACROSSnet site and access to level 2 is
intended for community professionals (any person who works
in a volunteer or paid capacity providing services to the
general community - for example, police, youth workers, school
counsellors and social workers) and mental health workers
who may have a professional interest in suicide and suicide
prevention.
Level 2 of the ACROSSnet website is not intended to provide
clinical advice. Nor is it intended to replace your professional
supervision. The information provided can not take into account
the specific needs and circumstances of any individual client.
Users are directed to seek formal advice from appropriate
supervisors for clinically appropriate advice on specific
matters.
Level 2 is intended to:
- list frequently asked questions;
- provide fact sheets;
- present scenarios of common topics of
interest around suicide prevention; and
- promote access to and linkage with existing
local generalist and specialist health services, supports
and networks.
Please be aware that level 2 of the ACROSSnet
site does not:
- provide information or respond to enquiries
regarding specific casework or individual situations; nor
- provide clinical supervision.
Where you hold concerns about an individual’s
safety or level of risk you should immediately consult an
appropriately trained and experienced service provider or
supervisor/colleague. Clinicians and workers delivering services
with people with suicidal risk or behaviour should be working
under, or have access to, regular supervision. This is important
both for the safety of the client, and for the self care and
professional support of the worker. The process of supervision
may also assist in the provision of quality service delivery.
Where risk of suicidal behaviour is deemed to be high it is
important that an individual is linked into a system of care
that caters for the underlying psychosocial/cultural issues
as well as specialist risk management and clinical intervention
needs as appropriate.
When you register to become a member, we ask
that you provide information about your training and experience,
and to answer a series of questions about your current practice
in the field of suicide prevention and/or mental health. This
could take up to 10 minutes but it's vital to ensure that
ACROSSnet provides information and services that are both
useful and responsible. Some of the information asked for
by theACROSSnet team may not apply to you (eg Qualification,
Registration Board). This does not necessarily exclude you
from becoming a registered member of ACROSSnet but we may
follow-up with you to explore your situation in more detail.
The team at ACROSSnet respects your privacy
and will not give your details to anyone else without your
expressed consent. When you submit this information you will
be asked to agree to Member
Conditions of Use for the ACROSSnet site. These conditions
outline your responsibilities when using the ACROSSnet site.
Once your registration information has been
confirmed, your user name and password will be activated and
you will have full access to the site. You will receive an
email letting you know when this has happened.
If you have any questions or concerns, check
out our privacy statement and the site disclaimer for more
information or drop the Senior Research Associate an email.
